Tour of Winery

The Domaine's vineyard currently covers ca. 15 hectares which fan over
the hills surrounding the village, and which benefit from an extremely
advantageous south, south-west exposure.
The property is all in one piece and includes outstanding parcels like
the " Clos du Papillon ", a geological spot in which the soil is of
extreme complexity : the schist is particularly well enriched with volcanic
stones : spilites (green) , rhyolites, basalts, phtanites and a vein of quartz.
This plot produces a wine with an exceptional complexity and lingering fragrance
Other parcels have given their names to our cuvées like Les Caillardières
et les Coulées (a coulée is a small valley) . The proportion of phtanites (
black coloured sedimentary siliceous rock from the primary era) , quartz
(sparkling white rocks) and rhyolites (volcanic stones) varies to a considerable
extend from one parcel to the other, at the same time as the depth of the arable
land , creating thus different soil effects (effets terroir). We are enhancing
this by making different cuvées. A prevailing geological diversity accompanying
the beginning of transformation of the mother rock is a factor of enrichment for
the complexity of the wine.

The vineyard is located in the Loire Valley, more precisely in
the Anjou-Saumur area.

The Domaine du Closel is near the church on the Place du Mail,
in Savenni`res, a typical old Angevin village situated along the
Loire, 15 kilometers south-west of Angers.
The vineyard spreads like a fan across the hills overlooking the
village and the valley.
